Quilt Competition 2019 (EN)

This year we are launching the first edition of the Quilt Competition!

Enter the competition and have your work exhibited during the Textile Plus Festival, which will take place from 14 to 16 November 2019 in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. The jury winner and public winner will also receive a publication in the Quilt & Zo magazine and on their website!

The theme of this year’s Quilt competition is FESTIVAL!

Thinking of a FESTIVAL makes us really happy! Cheerful faces, a good mood, bright colours, fun activities, laughing kids, music, sunshine…

You can probably also dream away endlessly when you think about a FESTIVAL. Let your imagination run free in the process of creating your own FESTIVAL quilt and participate in the competition at the Textile Plus Festival!

Please note:
The registration is closed on October 1. It is no longer possible to register.

What do I have to do?

There are two options. Design and make a (new) quilt especially for the Textile Plus Festival or sign in with a quilt that has already been made. As long as the quilt fits within the FESTIVAL theme.

What’s also important is the story behind it. How did the idea come about, how did you apply the theme and why so, what does this quilt mean to you, for whom was it made, etc. Present your work with a catchy title and explain the use of theme and motivation in about 50 words.

In terms of size there’s only one restriction. The height of the quilt may not exceed 2.30 m, because the quilt is presented on a 2.50 m high wall. The width is not limited.

What do I do next?
Take about 5 high-quality photos of your work, with the highest possible resolution. Make sure the exposure is good, preferably use daylight. Also capture some striking details of the work with your camera.

Send these photos by WeTransfer before 1 October 2019 to Anouk Zoer (anouk@terwisse.nl). State your name and address clearly.

Please note: the jury will make a preselection based on the photos submitted, so ensure that the photos are of good quality.

Who can participate?
EVERYONE is welcome to participate. You can register with a traditional, a modern and an art quilt.

Your level also doesn’t matter to us. Whether you are a starting quilter, have years of experience or are even working on a professional level… everyone can participate!

Who are the jury members?

The jury consists of professional quilters: Hilde van Schaardenburg and Maaike Bakker and editor-in-chief of the Dutch magazine Quilt & Zo: Marion Boeckhout.

How does the jury work?

Of all submitted works, 40 are exhibited at the Textile Plus Festival. If there are more than 40 entries, a preselection will take place, based on the photos submitted, your motivation and explanation of theme and use of color. Also a good balance of traditional, modern and art quilts will be taking into account.

On Monday, 14 October 2 p.m. the jury will announce which 40 works have been selected. These works still have a chance of winning a prize.

My work has been selected, how should I deliver and collect it?
You can only participate in the competition if the work is delivered and picked up at the Textile Plus Festival in Den Bosch, by yourself or by a person designated by you (excluding international entries).

The work can be delivered on Wednesday, 13 November, from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Collection is only possible on Saturday, 16 November from 5 till 8 p.m.

Location
Brabanthallen
Diezekade 2
5222 AK ‘s-Hertogenbosch
The Netherlands

Help, I cannot deliver or collect my work myself!
In case there are special circumstances why the work cannot be delivered and picked up, please contact the organization (Anouk Zoer) via 06-28728677 or anouk@terwisse.nl to discuss the possibilities.

What can I win?
A fantastic prize package is put together, stimulating the winners in their further creative process. There will be a jury winner, a public winner and there’s a chance of receiving an honorable mention.

When will the winners be announced?
On the first day of the Textile Plus Festival, Thursday 14 November 2019 at 4 p.m. the jury winner of the Textile Plus Competition will be announced as well as any honorable mentions.

After the festival, when the public has been able to vote for three full days, the public winner will be announced on the website and social media of the Textile Plus Festival on Monday 18 November 2019 at 2 p.m.

What does it cost?
The fee for participating in the competition is € 25.00 p.p. (excl. 21% VAT). Entry to the Textile Plus Festival is free for all contestants, so you don’t have to purchase a passe-partout for € 17.00.
